Search Image
Prey detection is the process by which predators are able to detect and locate their prey via sensory signals. Visual predators may form what is termed a search image of certain prey and use these images in pinpointing their prey. This search image is a mental image kept in the predator animal’s mind to help it locate prey. Predators visually identify a prey based on its shape, size, and color. A search image of prey is formed over time and can be developed or refined to include new details.
