Individual Final Presentation

Dear students:

Originally. was planning to have you all work in groups to do the final presentations for our class. However, some students have expressed concern that assigning the same grade to everyone in a group may be unfair because some students may contribute more work to the project than others. So I’ve given it some thought and have decided that the group presentations will be replaced by individual presentations. Also, since research and public speaking skills are essential for a successful business career, creating an entire presentation individually will better enable each of you to practice and develop these skills.

Illusion of Truth

People tend to believe that they are able to accurately judge whether information they receive is true or false, but this is not always the case. In fact, research has found that when people are exposed to the same information more than once, they become more likely to accept the information as true. This phenomenon is known as the illusion of truth.Psychologists think this illusion occurs because familiar information is easier to process than unfamiliar information. Easier processing of the information may lead people to inaccurately believe that the information is true simply because they have encountered it before.

Explain how the examples from the lecture illustrates the concept of the illusion of truth.
