Information Overload
Information overload occurs when the amount of information exceeds people’s processing capacity. This refers to the difficulty a person can have understanding an issue and making decisions that can be caused by the presence of too much
information. When too much information is present people tend to receive only a small portion of the information or disregard all of it. Because decision makers have fairly limited cognitive processing capacity, when information overload occurs, it is likely that a reduction in decision quality will occur.
