Naturally, the government would be inclined to fund projects that reflect its political preferences and cultural prejudices. Thus artists whose ideas contradict those of the government would not receive funding, and such “subversive” art would be effectively repressed.

Government funding for art and arts organizations is simply not needed. Indeed, the entertainment industry in the United States is very successful. In the past ten years, movie ticket sales have grown by more than $3.5 billion, and over 98 percent of households in the United States have a television set. The government should spend its money elsewhere, as the arts clearly do not need financial assistance.
